Kayla Boyer, DVM Owner/ Doctor
Email drkboyer@speedwayvet.com

Dr. Boyer is a native of Oklahoma, where she attended the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in 1995, Dr. Boyer practiced medicine in Maryland in a predominantly equine practice. Dr. Boyer decided to move to Arizona based on her experiences working on the Hopi Indian Reservation as an extern. She has been practicing small animal medicine exclusively since relocating to Tucson in 1996. Dr. Boyer enjoys the animal and human interaction of preventive medicine, and the diagnostic challenges of internal medicine. Her overall favorite area of veterinary care is in surgery.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Boyer enjoys outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking and “day trips” on her motorcycle.  In 2005, Dr. Boyer began taking flying lessons to obtain her private pilots license.

Kayla shares her home with her partner, Mary, and their three dogs Giovanni, Ruger, and John Doe (below).

 Dr. James Crawford

Dr. Jame CrawfordJames is an east Tennessee native who moved to Tucson in 1993. Long-time clients may recall him as a veterinary nurse who worked at Speedway Veterinary Hospital while he was preparing his applications for veterinary school. Dr. Crawford earned his B.A. from East Tennessee State University in foreign languages, a B.S. in veterinary science from the University of Arizona, and his DVM from Michigan State University. He practiced small animal general medicine in central Indiana until the irresistible charms of southern Arizona, and SVH’s excellent standard of care, drew him back to Tucson. He enjoys helping people enjoy the best possible bonds with their animal companions, and is a strong advocate of preventative care. He professional interests include immunology, dermatology, oncology medicine, and diagnostic imaging.

Dr. Crawford quiere la cultura rica y variada del suroeste, e invita a la communidad hispanohablante visitarle cuando necesite servicios veterinarios en su idioma. (Dr. Crawford loves the rich and diverse culture of the southwest, and invites the Spanish-speaking community to visit him when they need veterinary services in their language.)

James and his wife Liz enjoy travel, cultural exchange, fine arts, music, theatre, and their many friends. They support causes that raise social consciousness regarding farmed and companion animal welfare. They share their Tucson home with two Dalmatians, a mixed-breed Shepherd, and a calico cat.

Jaggers - Hey there human. I'm Jaggers. I'm the King of the World. At least, this world. I'm the REAL owner of Speedway Veterinary Hospital, but I permit the humans to think they are actually calling the shots. I've been supervising these humans for almost 4 of your years. I've inhabited this body for about 5 to 5-1/2 of your years. Every so often I donate a little blood to one of my brethren, and I permit the humans to practice their silly little CPR drills on me. I do get bored... They do it over and over and over again... like they just insist on getting it perfect every time. Oh Well... What's a superiorly intellectual feline to do?

Kathleen Clisham  moved to the Tucson area in 2007 from Chicago, Illinois. She is ecstatic to find a clinic with such a devotion to small animal care and a wonderful team to work with. Kathleen has worked in the veterinary industry for 6 years and has a true passion for the bond between humans and companion animals. She is currently earning a degree in Veterinary technology and an associate’s degree in Science. Kathleen has a Miniature Pinscher named Kahlua, a Chihuahua Malibu, Two Rottweilers Guinness and Tecate, five cats, Mortimer, Max, Patron, Whiskers and Sebastian, five doves and a parakeet. In her spare time she loves to design and create clothes and accessories for her pets.

Robin Creson has lived in Tucson, Arizona since 1991, originally from Fort Worth, Texas. Robin lives with her Husband RJ and their four “kids”: Puma, a fat but very happy and extremely spastic tabby cat; Smeeties, a stuck-up and self proclaimed “most gorgeous” calico cat; Dawn Chickles “Chickie” a Chihuahua rescue that has a personality all her own and no words could really do her justice; and last but not least, Hurley, a three-month-old lop eared bunny. Says Robin, “I am extremely happy to find such a great environment to work in with such amazing people and of course animals. In my free time I love watching horror movies and am always adding to our horror movie memorabilia collection, going on random road trips, and doing arts and crafts.” Robin is our Speedway team’s wonderful, caring multi-tasker in charge of the front desk. We are so very happy to have her be the first smile you see when you arrive at Speedway Vet.

Cate  comes to us from the Chicago land area, although she is no stranger to the Tucson area. Cate moved from Illinois, to Tucson with her family in 1996. After 11 years she decided she would try the midwest living again, but after the two worst winters in 30 years she decided Tucson was her real home. Cate enjoys being outdoors as much as possible with her best friends, her boyfriend Bobby, his daughter Maddie, and their two, four legged kids Xena (a black lab/greyhound/german shepherd mix), and Grimey (a chihuahua). Cate started her career in the veterinary field 3 years ago as a receptionist and worked her way  to a more hands on position as a veterinary technician. Cate has throughly loved her transition back to Tucson, and into a hospital with such caring people who are as passionate about what they do everyday as she is.

Kathy Shirley comes to us via North Carolina where she grew up and graduated from Veterinary Technician school. It is what she has wanted to be since a child. Moving to Tucson in 1992, she passed the State Boards and is licensed in Arizona as a Veterinary Technician. Working the past 4 years in Veterinary Emergency Medicine,Easterweekend2009062.JPG Kathy is glad to be at a practice where she Various%20679.JPGcan enjoy more personal interaction with pets and their owners.

Kathy has 2 wonderful 2-legged children, Darby and Paul, who are the light of her life and shares her house with many 4-legged children. Banjo(a boxer/akita cross), Miso(a pom pom), PJ(a grey dsh), Hemingway(a polydactacyl dlh), Simon(a manx), Leif(an orange dlh), a rabbit named Alice, a Guinea Pig named Dasher and a fish.

Kathy along with her boyfriend Tim, enjoy for fun: traveling, camping, cooking, seeing movies, hiking, taking rides on her motorcycle and flying in Tim's Cessna 172.
