Testicular cancer not just happen in humans it is also visible in animals such as dogs. Dogs need to be neutered to make sure that they will not have testicular cancer. This is just a simple process that were observed by a lot of dog owner globally to make sure that their dog gets the adequate care they need to make them healthy and happy. Although there are some dogs that will not be neutered, this is just for the breeders that contains license and those who knows how to breed their dogs appropriately.

Those who are called the backyard breeders and not a professional breeder should go through the conventional procedure of having their dog neutered to make sure that they will not be at risk of testicular cancer.

There are varieties of testicular cancer, here are some of them:

1. Interstitial cell tumors

2. Seminomas—this causes swelling of the testicles and in the scrotum area. This is the type that doesn’t metastasize but it is typically incidental to find. A blood test should be conducted before it will be detected.

3. Sertoli cell tumors—this type of tumor causes swelling in the scrotum and testicles and in the part of the groin or abdominal area. This is also the type that causes estrogen production increase; the dog will also have an enlarged mammary glands, prostate, and nipples. This will cause abnormality because it may make them attracted to other male dogs too. It will also boost anemia and hair loss in the long run.

The testicular cancer is hard to diagnose because there are times there are no visible symptoms unless the case is already severe and advance. It can only be checked on rigid tests such as biopsy and microscopic exam of the removed tumor. Taking your dog to the vet will be very helpful because they will know if the case is curable or not. X-rays should be done to make sure that the cancer hasn’t spread yet to other parts of the body. The doctor will then assess the history of the dog and the symptoms of the ailments should also be checked.

One of the best treatments for testicular cancer is castration.
This is done to make the dog survive and for the cancer to be eliminated. Castration is a successful treatment but  chemotherapy can also be another way to treat the dog especially if the cancer has metastasized. Prevention is still better than cure so if you want to prevent your dog from having cancer, you need to neuter him to make sure that they will be safe from this type of cancer. Once you get a dog your commitment should be for a lifetime. You need to be serious about their cases to make sure that they will not suffer later on in life.
